Most of the people who enter WOW each year with the REALLY impressive things are in the 60's-ish age range.
I'll keep doing it so long as its fun.

I think the old fashioned ideas of age have long gone out the window. My mums cousins have just taken up cycling, and within a year doing a very long cycle tour of england, never having cycled before. And they are 70. And thats pretty typical, most of the people taking up cycling in ChCh are in there 50's. And if you went to Latin dance/swing/rock and roll, etc I think you would find similar. Even peoples jobs are not secure or life and old people retrain, go back to uni, start new jobs, learning off the young ones who have been in the job longer.

Besides once you reach adulthood age means litte. Unlike the really really ancient days someone in there 20' and someone in there 70's would converse/compete/train/work/whatever as equal adults.

Besides I don't feel old. And I know people in their 50's and 60's are now maintaining their health and fitness, and don't see themselves as old. In fact as they are the ones with all the money they are the kings/queens of the hill as far as choice of/ability to do things are concerned.

PS. Someone guessed my age as 25 today. A lot of use in the 20+ age group can play such a wide range of ages.

It looks kinda odd of theres someone who's like 70 trying to cosplay as a teenager XD

But if I cosplayed when I was old, I'd be an actual old charactar, like maybe Auron... XD

Phew!!! I was worried that folk would draw the line at say 30 and then wondered... yeah but who would play the old folk? Well of course us old folk! lol... even if we're only just getting into cosplay, there is always old folk in the genre's of our choice so phew, I still get to come and play Yay :)

Have to admit though, you younger folk definitely are inspiring and I'm often in awe when I see the pictures of what you guys create and how passionate you are to this! And perhaps 5% envious that I didn't know about this stuff when I was your age... LOL.....

Still you can teach an old dog new tricks, and love learning from folk younger than me... keeps me young! YAY!!!!

I demand my ash to be shoved into a Madoka Gem urn. Then I'll be like, cosplay forever oh yes.

Though given my questionable life style, I'll probably die when I'm 27 so I won't reach to the ripen old awesome age.

You, sir, deserve a medal.

Yeah, I wondered about this too when I joined (Hell, everywhere I go these days besides Toastmasters I seem to be the oldest guy!) but it's great to know I'm not the only one who worries about this.

Now where's that glass I put my teeth in...

There are benefits to being an older cosplayer:

You work so can afford the materials and travel to conventions.

You have the ability to take (paid) leave from work to attend conventions.

You own or rent a place so have enough room to make and store costumes and props.

(...Probably other benefits I don't realise since I started cosplaying already having the above...)

Younger persons should look forward to these 'Golden Years' of cosplay where you don't have to worry about parents complaining, exams, homework and no money.

Particularly about the "attending conventions" part, as we are all so envious of your guys trip to AX. Smile

That is an awesome idea! I wanna do that too except I'm donating my body to science.

I've seen a couple of people in their 40's and 50's cosplay, they're just rarer. A number of the more popular cosplay idols are older in my country too because they have the experiance.

Not in my opinion...

My Mum Cosplayed with me one year, One women pulled her aside and asked her "Arn't you a bit old for this?" We just laughed at her and informed her a lot of the people there were older than she thought (she figured everyone was about 14-15)

Think of all the awesome older characters you can cosplay when you are older XD

Ironically mum tried to talk me out of dressing up for the SCA, when I am probably younger than the average in the SCA. But then I train to fight steel at the local university club, making me one of the older ones there.

In all seriousness, I can't wait til I can afford my own workshop, maybe ten years down the line.

Then again, I'm more an item maker than cosplayer.
