WoW '11 - comp!
Post By Static. 30/04/10, 08:29 pm

SO. I'm breaking my own (quite logical and also sane) rule of not setting a date for my Draenei DK costume, and I'm doin' it for the Welly '11 comp! Is anyone keen on joining me? I'm undecided as of yet whether to enter as a group or solo (I'm more inclined to go solo, but if we had a SWEET skit, why the hell not) but the more wowgeeks the better!

Sooooo....anybody else keen? Very Happy

So far we have:
ME in my not-at-all-impressive-but-cool-lookin'-nonetheless armour):

Dimey:

Sorien:

MAYBES:
Creature124
Mischa (I'll take you off later if you cancel, but putting you in the list makes us look good Razz)

RESOURCES WE MAY FIND USEFUL

Armour tutes:
http://entropyhouse.com/penwiper/costumes/helmsdeep.html - craft foam version. Easy, lightweight, and SHINY!
http://www.sithvixen.com/tutorials/FiberglassPhobic.pdf - a craft foam and plastic sheeting version, looks a little fiddly, but moderately durable!
http://www.cosplaysupplies.com/tutorials.php?id=4 - Wonderflex, Friendly Plastic and paper mache. Looks fantastic, and really durable, but very labour intensive and expensive!
http://www.smooth-on.com/pdf/Smoothon_HTB_2008.pdf - this is a 'How-to' guide on molding and casting, which is the method I think I'm going to use...the liquid plastic looks friggin' pricey, but I will get back to y'all on how easy it is! Good read, anyway :) NOTE: liquid plastic (EasyCast urethane is what it's called here in ol' NZ) is available from TopMark from $42 for a 475gm kit. Not sure how far it'll go, but it's available in a lot of different sizes and can be rota-cast to save on materials.

**NEW** http://kamuicosplay.blogspot.com/ - FANTASTIC way to carve armour forms using a shetload of expanding foam! Beware: when she warns about how you don't want it on you, your floor or your clothing...she means it. Thank you Nikopol!

Suppliers for stuff:
http://www.topmark.co.nz - massive range of urethanes, resins, silicones, molding stuff, release agents, ALL SORTS! They have a fairly massive (like, 25 pages massive) pricelist, and are fairly helpful with enquiries :)
http://www.mulford.co.nz - plastics specialists! Branches in Aucks, Welly, Chch and Hamilton.

You've given me something to think about. (I think you might wanna change the date in your message to Welly '11 XD). I'm not giving my firm commitment yet, but having someone else DEFINITELY doing it gives me some drive.

However. If anything (This is from the WoW site of course):

Ha, I'm a durrbrain. Ta! That'd be fantastic - I'd definitely steal you for a photoshoot Razz I'd love it if we had a couple of horde and a couple allies; I think I may be able to talk someone into doing a belf. I hope so anyway, I may have to resort to bribery of the sexual kind, BUT SHE'LL ENJOY IT.

.....-stareeeee-
If I had more then a slim, slim chance of going to Welly next year, and if the chances of my skill being good enough for such a costume weren't even slimmer, I would be totally keen for a mage gnome, or a dwarf priest.
this is pretty much spam isn't it? D8

The thing is, even if I did magically improve in a year, I'd still probably not be able to do it.
pfft it's ridiculous how willing my mom would be to help with that particular costume

....

Goshdarnit I really want to make the costume now :C

Greg: I WILL HELP AND SO WILL LUCY. Come on, like we'd LET you do it without us on board! Razz

@Firecat: I actually met the inventor of the legs, Kim Graham, at the SPCC super swap! She wandered in and had a look around, found out we were costumers and said she wante to show us something. She left, and came back with a pair of friggin' legs!!! I tried them on, but I was too tall for them; Cassiel and U_ne_korn both got to walk around in them though Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy they look SO COOL!

Well okay then, can't argue with that kind of backing. Between the two of you I couldn't physics it up if I tried.

The next question would be WHAT. I am mildly interested in doing a costume modelled off my old belf mage - he was low level, so it is basically a simple robe. I think it was purple, actually. I'd need to reactivate my account. But yeah, uh, bodypaint dnfw, so that mean either human or belf for me.

Tempted to do my warlock. So tempted. Not even sure if I will be attending Wellygeddon next year but still. WoW...

Then again I am not sure if my skills cover it. SO TEMPTED.
