'Thanking' topics?

I just noticed that 'Thanks' button next to the 'quote' buttons on people's comments...what does it do? I noticed it only appears on topics you made yourself~

It's linked into the karma system, I think.

It ties in with the karma system that we don't use, yeah. Traditionally it gives the person you thank +3 karma and highlights that person's post in green. Now that we don't use karma it's still there for the 'the green post was helpful' thing, but no one uses it.

These forums have a karma system? Wow. That does sound pretty nifty actually. What would it be used for though? I'm guessing only you mods can see the karma points?

Naw, it's disabled for everyone - people abused it within days of it going up so we took it down. XD It's actually still functional - that's what the green/red post voting is - it's just that doing either only adds +0 to karma, and we have the profile field disabled so it's not visible. As for use - if someone makes a particularly helpful post, then you can use it to highlight their post for others. :) It's only a one-off though. I think it had more functionality when karma was actually working.

Ooo I getcha. Yeah I noticed the voting about a month ago, I've used it sometimes on really helpful comments. Well thanks for clearing that up! :)

Yes, the karma system had me at -50 in something like 3 days. stare

Then nice people started voting for me, and I ended up with +50.
I suspect I had a hand in motivating its discontinuation....
