[AC10] Cosplay Contest - August
Post By Mischa. 12/04/10, 01:45 pm

Quote:

The Masquerade is one of the highlights of the convention. Show off
your costuming skills, or demonstrate any other talents that can be
displayed on stage. Entrants will be judged on workmanship, creativity,
and on presentation, where applicable - it's more entertaining if you
can put on a short skit or in-character performance rather than just
walking on and off. Costumes may be replicas of designs from TV, film,
comics, etc, or completely orginal creations. You, or someone in your
team, must make your own costume in order to be judged on workmanship,
but bought or hired costumes are permitted if you're only entering for
the performance category. Team entries may include members who only
make the costumes and don't go up on stage. We'll have a prize pool
with a value of at least $500 for Masquerade entries, so it's worth your while to get out your sewing machines!

Cosplay is also very welcome throughout the convention, and spot prizes will be awarded for hall costumes [Costumes worn outside the Masquerade, anywhere and any time.].
The eligibility rules for hall costumes are a lot less strict; pretty
much anything goes. However, more care needs to be taken with regards
to comfort, public decency, and avoiding any danger to other attendee

Um, Ah, I feel the important thing is, um, like, what is a plushie registration.

And a solidary and a support registration?

Wonders if I can afford this?

^ Solidarity is if you want to pay extra as a charity to the event, not sure about the others though.

So keen to dress up for the late night Rocky Horror Picture show! I guess anything for the masquerade would need to be sci-fi?

Hey guys, one of the organisers from Au Contraire emailed me - it was a while back, just got around to passing on the message. Answers to questions are:

The unwaged memberships are for students, the unemployed and the generally destitute.
The plushie registrations are not neccesary if you want to bring a toy along, but then the toy does get a namebadge Very Happy

And Masquerade entries should be fantasy or sci-fi themed, but it can be a sci-fi or fantasy anime or manga, doesn't have to be a Western one.

I used to be involved in the sci-fi community and I used to go to a lot of conventions. Then Armageddon came along and I stopped going to the con's. They are a lot of fun. Word of advice and warning.

*if you are not "open-minded" about sexual orientation/poly-armory etc then you may find the attendee's a little shocking. While it is not in your face, many of the attendee's are very open about who they are.

*it is incredibly scifi geeky, and many of the attendee's are into model-making, sci-fi writing, and love shows like Babylon 5, Star Trek, Dr Who, Star Wars, Buffy etc. There are not a lot of anime/cartoon lovers at the con.

*The skills for the Masquerade vary from historical, scifi, etc. One year that I attended, a guy made this really cool, fully operational mini-tank. It was awesome.

Most of the attendee's have known each other for years, but are incredibly welcoming to newcomers. The best time I had was hanging out in the bar drinking with the Klingons.

But most of all, there are usually heaps of stuff to do, from discussion panels, to quiz's etc. If Modelanary is on, go and do that, it is fun. It is kinda like pictionary but you use plasticine/clay.

I hope that I haven't put people off. I used to have so much fun at these con's, but if I didn't spend so much time and money at armageddon or my sca events, I would still attend them.

I'm a bit cash poor at the moment. So don't think I can go this year.
