No how to cosplay panel but...
Post By neimhaille. 29/03/10, 10:00 am

I got asked a few times if it was happening in ChCh and why it wasn't- just timing and more need for the room space for those invited guests and all ;)

Anyway I spotted a few questions in the MG thread about registering and a few other things. If anyone is interested I am thinking an informal Q&A at the restaurant on the water side of the event centre might be something to do? So long as it doesn't clash with plans for a grand freeze or other offsite activities or the games.

It would be just a chance to ask questions, I will take notes, about how the contest works. I mean I can post as much as I can publicly but it doesn't get seen by everyone ;) I may even be able to bring an example or two of costumes to see the inside of for linings and facings etc.
I can bring my regular panel notes too and maybe a book or two showing some extreme garments and how they were made.

I'm looking at no later than 2pm on Saturday, I have photos with sylvie in the morning and will not be able to wear my costumes for long :) So if anyone is interested or if anyone can tell me if there is a clash.
Or Friday midday when it all starts seems to have the least clashes ;)

Awesome :) I just compared to the photoshoots schedule also and I will be wanting a sit down anyway and the Vocaloid group and Sylie, JP and the helpers(?) should be able to join a little later if they wish for a comfy lunch break and natter.

They do reasonable prices and for them likes me wot are a little skint hot chocolate goes a long way :)

That would be great!
Im looking to enter for the first time in Auckland later this year, and I'd like to hear what goes on during the judging session, so I can be better prepared.

Woot! Excellent :) When I arrive I'll see if I can book a table just to make sure. Seats are able to be rearranged but it'll just be nice to have a secure corner ;)

2pm Saturday that bar restaurant next door ;)

That sounds cool. But I should probably have a small chat privately sometime too.

Also are there any good websites or books you recommend as good for any particular stuff/in general. Sources of patterns apart from the usual fabric shop quick-sew would be one of my questions.

OMG! Thank you to everyone who turned up! I was not expecting so many as you could probably tell by the lack of seating ;) It was amazing, truly inspiring.
Semi quote from my lj:
Quote:
I loved it so much. I sooooo missed being able to do that in Aucks and being able to just ramble for so long and geek out. It meant so much to be able to do it. I still don't know how long we were there?

It was also nice to be able to show pieces I either am in the middle of making or don't really wear to give ideas of what is possible.

I brought my Imperial Officers uniform (progress of which is here or here in my DA account) to show neat tailoring and finishing.
I brought my Hannibal appliques (also in the DA account gallery above) to show how you can dimentionalise gold details (gold organza, cord and beads on black velvet).
I brought my Leia earrings and hair slides to talk about flat back molding (and then shaping while "hot")
And a bit of card and resin as an example of how to take cardboard that next step :)

I also highlighted safety concerns with goggles and gloves and masks!

Oh poot. I forgot my lizzy dress. It was going to be another example of how internal seam finishing affects the outside. Also it's a nice example of texture in fabric.

So much respect for those who showed up and listened and shared. Sheer bloody magic and exactly what I'm in this for. *SQUEEE*

There was a little discussion about performance, I can't now remember exactly what it was. But I am a performer myself, I do love the skit/play part of cosplay on stage as well ;)

I loved this little chat, even though I had to race away in the middle for a shoot! It was great - really casual and cosy, and a lot of fun :)
