Overlocker help!
Post By syill. 22/03/10, 01:21 pm

I recently borrowed an overlocker from a friend (Brother 3034d Lock) and I somehow broke the needle.
I asked my friend if she has a replacement and she said no. SO! How do I replace an overlocking needle and do I need to by special ones specifically for the otherlocker?

Feel free to move this thread if it is in the wrong pace. Thank you!

They are all different, I couldn't see any page that lists that model either sadly. However if you look where the needle goes it should be fairly easy to figure out :) There is usually a little screw on the side, loosen it and use a pair of tweezers to take the needle fragment out. You can take that to Spotlight or other sewing place and they will be able to get you a pack of needles.
My needles are all round so require a bit of care to put them back. With half round ones it's much easier.

I was really lucky and my overlocker came with more needles than I will ever use in a lifetime ;)

Ohdear. I spelled the name of the model wrong. It's Brother 3034D.

Edit: So I have found out that I need a particular and uncommon screw driver to undo the screw that holds the needle in. I do not have this oh-so-special screw driver. FML.

Not sure if you still need the info but manual is here:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/eu/eu_ot/en/doc/manual_index.html?reg=eu&type2=-1&prod=hf_3034deuk&c=eu_ot&lang=en&flang=all

Page 13 apparently.

Edit: PS - on the screwdriver side i suspect i might know the type. if you can post a photo i'll let you know if i have one.

Thank you ; A;
I don't have the screw driver.. It's suppose to come with the over locker but according to the person I borrowed the over locker from, no such kit of screw drivers came with it.

Yeah, if it's a hex drive type which I saw mentioned earlier in manual I probably have some at work. Razz

If you're out Ngauranga way feel free to drop by with the needle holder thingi and I can have a look at it. It's probably the same as some of the ones we've got for laptop servicing.
Service Plus - 15 Jarden Mile, Ngauranga. It's not far from spotlight but it's still a 30-40minute walk if you're on foot.

PS: I meant a photo of the screw btw. Then i can see what type of screw head it uses. Razz

... I didn't know this thread had updated n___n;;

My mom looked into it and she said that she found a Brother AS center in Petone and another one somewhere in town. If that fails, I will totally swing by and get you to take a look at it.

Thank you so much for the help!
