Black velvet cape?
Post By LithiumCrystal. 02/02/10, 11:49 am

Any clues where I can get this but just black? I'd buy this one and dye it but I here dying velvet is tricky and, well, it'd take a lot of dye I think. Very Happy I can't really settle for anything with colour in it (my character doesn't do colour)

Why is the model topless?

Anyways, for $150, you could probably afford to get the plain black velvet at spotlight and make your own, then line it in some uber cheap black lining. The stretch velvet I'm really fond of is only $8/m usually (needs hemming tape on the seams but otherwise holds up well!). I know for a fact there are a bunch of cape patterns in the Butterick/McCaulls/etc historical/costuming section.

Or you could get that and rip the lining out - the inner side of the cape is probably black? Or make your own lining and tack it over if you didn't want to ruin it.

There are A LOT of topless girls on that site... I have no idea why! XD

God, I'm dumb (and not just because I realised I spelt 'hear' wrong in my previous post.) Duh, I could take the lining out. My problem is that I don't sew at all and don't think of these things much. I'm very fond of the closet cosplay. The most I've ever done is my Amber skirt. I think I'll do that. Thank you!

Its ok, you can't see anything, it's just you can see that the model is topless under the cape. It's very strange.

Ah, yes for Susan. XD I was thinking I'd like to get together a group, but honestly if Teatime comes within ten feet of me I'd run screaming and that's just not very Susan!

Oh, when? Wellygeddon. I was thinking on the second day. Very Happy

Well I take it back, you can't just rup the lining out. Susan is a Duchess. Duchess do not wear unlined capes.

Hmmm.. I have a vested interest in your Susan outfit..
I'm not sure hers is velvet?
But if you did want to get the fabric and do it capes aren't the hardest things in the world so I may be convinced to come over with my friendly neighborhood sewing machine and nudge it all in the right direction.
For a certain amount of cola and loves.
In fact if I come with you to get your fabric I can show you what I'm planning for the Bloodrayne dress and you can give me the ok to go ahead and buy it. Plan?

I think it might be that not very shiny kind. Very Happy

We could go and get the stuff for Bloodrayne and get some new lining for the cape? I don't think the lining I have left from Alucard will be enough.

Mmm this is probably true due to your ripping up of most of it.
Lining is cheapy cheap. Especially when that sale was on. I lined my skirt for $2.50!
It was awesome.
And yeah I think you're right, could be matte velvet. That cloak looks like it'd be fine anyway.

T.T I only ripped up the outer fabric, not the lining. Cassie miscalculated slightly... By three about metres. It was hilarious, that's why I have so much extra fabric.

Yeah, it looks like the same fabric my black velvet dress is made of (which is part of what I'm wearing underneath) I think maybe the crushed velvet will add a bit of contrast and it won't look so flat black, which is nice since us cosplayers don't have the benefit of film lighting usually. Very Happy

I like cheap lining. :3 And cheap stuff. Bwa.

Ahhh over-estimating. That's how I ended up with an extra three metres of white suit fabric after Ben's Haru jacket and an extra three or so metres of that green ball dress fabric.
Whoops! Oh well. I'm sure I'll find usage for them both.
So how much lining DO you have?

Alrighty then.. Well I have to come and see you at some point to return your bag of things that I re-found so we shall mayhaps have a happy fun-times fabric day. I can buy up for Haseo and Shino too.
I think you should know that the first time I typed this out I typed out to return your bag of thongs.
Tee hee.

Actually I found some really cute little lolita dresses that I wanted like woah that I'm pretty sure were from some fetish site.. It was a bit unfortunate.
But awesome.
How much was your corset?

40. I'm worried because it's actually underbust, but it's size fourteen. Usually I need at least size fourteen (which is considered large, apparently) for corsets to fit my chest and you saw how tight my white one is... But now I'm thinking that because the chest thing is cut out, it might not fit my waist. Hopefully it will or hopefully we can tighten the crap out of it.

Hmmm.. I see the problem. Perhaps it will be a small fourteen.
If not I'm willing to put my foot against your back and pull like in the movies. But if all else fails you'll have a cape over it so we could always sort something out at the back to make it fit goodly.

Good point. Hmm, I'm starting to think I should have called this topic 'Susan Sto Helit; duchess, governess, master of the poker' because we appear to be taking about more than just the cape... And I'm supposed to be watching this overnighter movie! Argh, cosplay takes over EVERYTHING!

This is true. It starts off as a small extra excitement in your life and then turns into your life and makes everything else seem inconvenient.
