Signature Character length limit?

Boo.

is there any way to up the character length limit for signatures?

This what what I'm trying to set, and it's reporting too long and not saving - probably due to the long forum urls.

Snap, ok, so it's a hard limit that can't be changed.. oh, well, managed to wrangle it into submission, took short linking all bar the www.cosplay.org.nz url to do it though.

OK, FYI since the exact limit wasn't posted, but looks like the limit is 500 characters.
This also appears to include spaces, and carriage returns (new lines).

I also had this discussion with Tammy too. I tried to edit my sig to show a quoted conversation between four people. So I used four colors to avoid confusion. And it counted all the color tags.

500 displayed characters seems fair, but to include coding, CR's, etc.

Anyway sounds like we can't change it.

You wouldn't believe the number of times I've had to reformatt and remove half of my signature. orz But oh well... I guess it forces us to be creative, lol.

I sort of understand this from a database perspective - signature coding would be held in a single field in the user's table or somesuch.

500 characters does strike me as somewhat arbitrary, but really any limit would be arbitrarily set anyway, and it's not like 500 is unreasonable. Especially given the number of users forumotion hosts x_x

It's set in PHPBB2/3's control panel, and my guess is because forumotion is a customized version that's just their thought to keep data rates low in their enourmos amounts of databases.
