JUST FINISHED VOLUME 6.

It was pretty good. It didn't have as much charm as some of the previous volumes, but it was a good conclusion to the story. I also loved Joss Whedon's blurb on the back ;D

Re: Scott Pilgrim the Movie
Post By CamusCanDo. 20/08/10, 12:43 pm

Totally forgot to make a post about seeing it last week.

I loved it. Every single bit. This is coming from someone who has followed it since justafter the third volume was released.

Michael Cera wasn't as bad of a Scott Pilgrim as he should've been. I do enjoy Cera's work, but I do share the opinion that he is generally type cast as the awkward kid. Old argument is old over his acting, but he certainly did bring more than just the usual mumblecore to the role of SP.

The rest of the cast was amazing as well. The only gripe I have is that the characters weren't fleshed out as much as they should've been, so characters like Ramona and Kim didn't overly have much depth. I would've liked if it could've been made into a trilogy, but I guess it's kinda hard to sell a group of 20-somethings sitting around talking.

I was highly surprised by how much was included in the movie though, so I'm glad I went into it without knowing how much was included and cut.

Overall, I'd give it 8.9 hearts out of 10.

OH YEAH.

This movie was great. A pretty faithful adaption of the comic, but with it's own flavour. I enjoyed it a lot, even though it had hardly any of the depth of the source material. Seeing at the second time was no less enjoyable.

Kieran Culkin as Wallace really made my day. And the Lucas Lee scene with Chris Evans was hilarious (seriously, love that guy). Most SP fans have probably already seen this stuff, but here's some bonus fake-movie posters starring Lucas Lee that were made for the film.

Hah! I totally forgot about those. Let's Hope There's A Heaven is still my favourite.

Going for my second screening tonight with the girlfriend and people who haven't seen it yet, should be interesting to see what they think of it.

Seen it three times! Big big big big fan, still of both the books and the movie~

The movie was very enjoyable, even the non-fans I recommended it to said it was a really good movie. The producers and directors were big fans before us so it deserved extra respect. Even though it didn't go into depth, coming from a filmaker's point of view, it was actually pretty dedicated. Some little bits of details paid homage to the comics as a way of saying "we couldn't fit you in, sowwy!" ...

END SPOILER

IMHO, it stayed faithful. Its pretty tough to make the story work and have EVERYTHING in it at the same time. I enjoyed it from the logo to the end. Even my fangirlish indie music desires were fufilled as some of my favourite bands and new talent emerged to contribute music that you'd think they were playing for their entire lives; made the bands seem real. I mega loved Beck Hansen's take on the Ramona song as well as his stuff for "Sex Bob-Omb"
as well as a special Metric song I've admired for weeks prior to the movie ("Black Sheep").

I COULD RANT FOREVER ABOUT IT.

tl;dr: I LOVED IT. Movie was awesome, music was awesome. FUNTIEMS, U SHULD C IT. -fangirl-

^Being a super indie-fag myself I loved that Broken Social Scene (Yeah ok, like a few dudes, but still) were the musicians for Crash and the Boys. I have to say, I prefer Brie Larson's vocals on Black Sheep, as opposed to the version sung by Emily Haines. Also, I practically nerdgasmed when I found out that Chris Murphy from Sloan was helping out on set with Cera and Webber.

Second time around I was mega more aware of the little details. There wasn't much that I missed mind you, but it was as enjoyable being able to take everything in as opposed to being OHMAHGAWDTHISISACTUALLYBEINGWATCHEDBYMYEYESOHMAHGAWLAAAAAAWLKIMPINE.

A few things I picked out was that the mug Scott is drinking from at the beginning has a print of Gideon the cat on it, Lucas Lee is wearing a belt buckle with two X's on it and the moon has a hole punched into it. The last one I saw the first time but wasn't sure until I actually saw it.

The two guys I saw it with had pretty much polar opposite reactions. The one who is slightly aware of nerd culture enjoyed it a lot and the other one was a dude who the movie was specifically not marketed toward just thought it was weird crazy mess of a film.
