Suggestions on steampunk-ifying a costume?
Post By Cassiel. 31/12/09, 04:32 am

I'm going to the ball as a generic State Alchemist, or possibly Roy Mustang if I can get my hands on a wig. I know the series is already pretty steampunk-ish, but I'm looking for ways that I can make this costume a little more so. I'm not going to change the design any -- I want to keep the costume for other things, and anything to do with design is a bit beyond my skills.

Any help is much appreciated?

For starters:

-Instead of a Blue Cotton jacket, change to Blue Leather. Otherwise Khaki could work but would be a less recognisable
-Your State Alchemist Watch will be needing cogs. Many Many Many exposed cogs. And Silver? Screw that, Bronze/coppery colour
-Slightly Higher Boots

Okay! Thanks heaps guys!

@Rolly -- I might, though I don't know how I'd make them State Alchemist-y.

@Thornback -- I totally could, and add the star-pentagram thing on them. Thanks.

@CMKMStephns -- Yurr, I have some boots that will do nicely, and I like the watch idea, though I think blue leather is a little out of my price range.

@Static -- But what kind of hat~?

@Mischa -- ...I think I'm in love with those spats 8D

Or Blue PVC. The idea is just to move away from that type of military uniform to something that looks a few decades older, namely to something more like a trench coat. Have the same colour and military decorations to make it clear that it's Mustang, while changing the overall aesthetic. Even doing the same style uniform, but in Leather/faux leather would achieve that effect.

I can't help but think it would look a bit silly if it were just the jacket made out of PVC, unless you meant have the butt-cape and the jacket out of PVC.
