Well if it's lack of entries, i think people need to be stepping up to the mark even maybe I could - or something, hold tutorials on AMV making, and not just slideshows.

Windows Live Movie Maker sucks, but it's step one for those who want to get into it.

And yea, i do think RIANZ doesnt hold any say, but they tend to have an unorganized lacing in society - and i know seriously a few angry people in dunedin who would seriously try to get teh amv contest shut down (and i'm not one of them)

And yes, youtube has a thing with this because people put their works on youtube to share - get shut down and then dont even bother to make things. Legally it may have no hold on Armageddon, but people do tend to get affected by this.

Hopefully next year it starts back up, i'm happy to scrounge up a tutorial or so on this so people get some ideas.

I think (from what I've seen at Chchgeddon) if they didn't always have the cosplay contest/judging at the same time as the AMV competition more people would go, and thus more people would make them.
Taking away the prizes wouldn't work - maybe advertising the AMV contest/the prizes more would help.

I always forget what date the AMVs need to be submitted by and I usually miss it because I'm so busy sewing madly. That's the only thing that keeps me from submitting my WMM-made AMVs to geddon. XDX

^ This. Mean looking up the main Armageddon website finding anything AMV comp related was difficult to find and the main content they advertised of the main AMV was very, very small. Think in Auckland they have a Top Ten thing and if your AMV gets into the top ten best, you get a free ticket in Geddon they should use that prize for Welly & CHCH and make it more noticeable =)

But heard in Auckland that heaps of entries where put in and they didn't show every AMV, only the ones that the judges liked and heard that people who worked really hard on their AMV and it didn't get showed- where rather.. not pleased..

An unorganized resistance is no resistance. To my knowledge, nobody has ever directly opposed armageddon's AMV contest to my knowledge, so that point is not relevant.

As for youtube, you may be correct. I wouldn't be surprised if a few people are put off by not being able to share their creation in the long-term, but when competing for a cash prize the recent DMCA-frenzy on youtube isn't relevant - people make AMVs primarily becuase it is fun, and they want the recognition of the contest - the growing inabaility to share them in the long term is a secondary issue at best.

@Firecat: I agree - removing the prizes would solve the duplicate entries issue, but would damage the contest as a whole. But I agree with you that the AMV contest should be more advertised - it hardly is at all at the moment, and if people were more aware of it we'd be more likely to see enough entries.

Yea, you have a valid point - i just had a crapload of people telling me what was up and down with copyrights recently and finding direct copyright laws in NZ is like trying to hire an honest marketer LOL, the lawyer's more honest then the company marketing dept Razz

Not awlays LOL.

But HOPEFULLY, in future years - there can be more of a competition, i just i think i was trying to make point that some users of late are not as willing cause they keep hearing about copyright issues. ^^ but you are correct creature, it wouldn't have validation on the competition Very Happy

lol i would enter in all of them if i could but im limited to auckland and dunedin.
Yea aucklands one was huge lol mine was the last one played. Yea there should be more on how to make them and get people interested so there would be more people entering the comps.
ugh copyright does get annoying yea google stuffed youtube up. hmm would upping the amount of amv's you can enter work???
lol i can bearly make one at the moment.

Well i'll take a look at the options, i've made a few myself, not that great at it .. but yea, i can surely come up with something either on here or my website Razz or maybe sometime in dunnerz DACC may do a workshop Razz

yeah that hopefully will get people interested.

hmm i forgot i actually made a "how to make an amv" video a lil while ago aswell since people on yt were asking me how.
but it only for sony vegas i hadnt got around to making the wmm one.
