Cosplay Parade Ideas

| Hello all,
We had a really good chat with Bill yesterday and the outcome is more work ;) Seriously though it's great as he sees cosplay as an important part of the event, moreso than ever before (see the good news about the games  ).
So he has had feedback from others and Angela and I about a non-contest show your stuff/fandom type event at Geddon where absolutely any and everyone can participate and strut their stuff.
This would be for people who bought their costumes as well as those who make their own. Maybe spot prizes.
It is going to be trialed at Wellington then be part of the DAE if successful and maybe for Auckland again if successful.
So the question is... what do people want?
It will probably be on the main stage and will probably have an hour as usual. Ideas so far have been almost a spoof pageant type deal and would require an MC with a love of the stage ;) A series of walkons to music... But at this stage we are really open and will be looking online for ideas from other conventions. Really hoping for ideas!
The idea is to not pull focus from the games or the contest but to add something else so that all three days of any event will have something in the main stage for you guys and the general attendees.
Sadly blocking of the main streets and parading down them will not be an option like the Dragon*Con parade ;) |

But yay. This sounds like a great idea.
If you did it like a beauty pageant thing, it would be impromptu, yes? You could have questions for the MC to ask and have the cosplayers reply to the question in character.
i.e. If you were to ask, say, a Kakashi cosplayer what his favourite hobby was, he could answer "Reading Icha Icha Paradise" or something like that, which would also help to show what people actually have knowledge of their characters.
Any idea what day it would be? |

will this be confined to the stage area only? Sorry if you've stated this already. Just wanted to confirm.
I would also be happy to volunteer as MC if you'll have me (was MC for Doujin Overload '09 and i do promo work from time to time ... occupational disease ... i promote anything and everything i am involved in =3=|| )

If I'm in cosplay, I feel less self conscious and like to make a douche out of myself 8D
Besides, MCing as Squalo or Squirtle would be fun. |

but seriously, great news, theres alot of people now that go for the cosplayers more than the event itself, so having on stage events can only help it grow.

this is true. Some of us (me included) go to Armageddon purely to cosplay. I don't know why we do this but we enjoy the process as much as the outcome (most of the time 8D) |

Anyways, this sounds like a really great idea. Parades are so much fun and a Cosplay Parade would be even more fun to watch and be apart of ^^

I agree with this, if I didn't cosplay I would only go to 1 day of Auckgeddon and not even bother with Wellygeddon |

I agree with this, if I didn't cosplay I would only go to 1 day of Auckgeddon and not even bother with Wellygeddon |

| | I'm not so hot on the ideas front but I will definitely back any. I only ever went to 1 day of Geddon before cosplay. True I've only cosplayed to one and it was Auckgeddon this year, but still. i was there all 3 days wasn't I? I would love to see it become a bigger thing and think that the progress that has been made so far has been incredible. |

| Something that would be a huge contrast to the games and contest would be something involving music - a pageant or catwalk (similiar to the games one) but full-on (ish  ) music, flashing lights and strutting would be awesome on the main stage! Maybe not one by one, but all at once or alternating like a runway show would allow everyone their limelight as well as providing audience entertainment.
