Search function currently defective

I've noticed this since the mafia games I was playing and was trying to find out what people had said and when quickly. Unfortunately, it seems to be complete screwed.

Here's an example. I can search just Cassiel's username, and find her posts and trawl through them. If I enter a quote from them, namely 'Alexander the Great' beause I was searching for what subjects she was doing, it gives me no results for exact phrase, and 'any of the terms' random seems to pick up one post with the word 'the'.

Or there's some trick to it.

I don't think it's ever searched the exact phrase from memory... though it would be nice~

Sadly, it's always been like that - the search function software that many forums use (including this one) SUCKS - I have the same problem on coscom. :/ It would be nice if you could isolate phrases with speech marks, but sadly it's way too low-tech for that. :S

I would guess that they are using a MySQL database, if you encapsulate your search term in %% it occasionally improves your search results.
So, %Search Term% would be your search. Doesent always work though.
It also doesent seem to search for the contents of a thread, only the headings. Guess it is a speed thing - lets face it, we have a lot of threads, to search all the posts ever made for a search term = really slow and high server processing.

I don't have too many problems with it...it has refused to find me things sometimes, but usually when I've got the phrase wrong anyway. However I only search thread titles, so hey.

It will search the contents if you run the search via 'posts' instead of the default 'thread'.

Yea there's only limited functions to searching on forums due to mysql load.
