Hey guys I'm really curious to know what you think about a 'NO LYNCH' vote.
I'm pretty sure everyone believes that it's the worst thing to you can do but I wanna hear WHY you guys think that.

I'm a strong believer in that a 'no lynch' is the best thing for day one (so it's like starting on night 0). Why? because the chances of hitting a townies vs scum is like 1:4 or 1:5. Better to have more townies going into night 1 than 1 less, because it's obvious the mafia are going to take down a townie/neutral as well.

Though if your Mafia You DO want to lynch on day one (as long as it's not your own lol) and if your neutral you're generally all for it too.

So discuss people~
I'd like to hear the other side
and I'll probably get shot down for my views and told off for the bad way I described them

I personally dislike the no lynch rule, to me it just doesn't feel right, that whole unimformed guessing on day one is to a part of mafia (even though it can cause role claims early on, eg me in FMA), I dunno, no lynch just isn't as fun, the risk is all a part of it

No lynch means you don't even have a chance of hitting a mafia player randomly, at least lynching give you a chance.

Yea.. but in big games you'll almost never lynch a mafia member. They have members who will 'back them up' or 'change lynch subject'

Guess no one ever thinks so much about that...

so are we doomed to be all of the same mind? Possible spoiler?

Re: General Mafia Discussion
Post By creature124. 06/09/09, 01:21 pm

It has been long established that No Lynch is rarely beneficial to the town. Why? Becuase it essentially gives the mafia a head start. I don't know if the rest of you use it at such, but Day One discussion is FILLED with little clues as to who is what - to simply no lynch removes the possibility of spotting evasions, and the like.

Day one is not about lynching a mafia, though that would certainly be nice. No, day one is about identifying mafia based on who speaks, what they say, and who they support.

Re: General Mafia Discussion

Think of Mafia as chess, the town as white, and mafia as black.

A general game with white starting has a 5.5/4.5 chance of white winning, as they have the initiative. If Black starts though, it's a 4.5/5.5 chance.

Eveything gonk

The Mafia and the town don't have the same number of pieces, nor do they have equivelent pieces, nor of course does a white piece know which other pieces are white let alone black...

Think of it like a game of chess. Except every piece is a different colour. And they all look like pawns. Except some of them can move differently. And the game is played in the dark so you can't tell...etc

Well, I was more using that winning ratio thing where 10 is the max point and White starts at 5.5 and all that. YOU GET WHAT I MEAN... I hope.

plus less townies = more chance of hitting a Mafia later... XD

I must admit I Disagree with this to an extent. Making a no-lynch is beneficial to the town. There is far more chance that they are going to hit a townie rather than any sort of scum (hitting joker is... ok I guess)
Another thing I thought of is how people usually vote for in-actives. These people are also GENERALLY town as well (and if the odd occasion they were scum their buddies would provide another person to lynch).

On the flip side of the coin a no-lynch is the worse thing for any Scum player (obviously coz they wanna be last standing).

I'm reading the comments being made but not seeing the logic in them (yes I need plain english in the early morning).

Basically the 1:4 or 1:5 ratio of hitting scum is very weak and slight... Why would a townie risk it? During the gam we always lynch the in-actives and they are generally town. I do believe a no-lynch can only be used on the 1st day, and any day after that it's to prevent the scum from getting '2 kills' if numbers are getting low on town side.
Though I do agree with out Creature as I to believe day 1 has many a hint at players characters and also many a hint at playing styles (that differ from game to game as they play). I would never want to jump into day one and vote a no-lynch 1st post. The fact I don't should show just how keen I am on talking with people on day one (because of course you can't vote a no-lynch and chat afterwards~)

And now I'm off to make bread~

Please, no~ Day One is packed, I mean literally FULL with little inferences that makes identifying mafia, and even townside roles much easier. I know nobody else sees it like this, but Day One is the single most useful day in the entire game, if you know how to use it.

*~*~*

As for no lynch, I understand your arguement. And on Day One, it makes sense. On Day One, my only issue is thus - when people believe that day will ultimatley end in a certain way, they way they play changes, and this hides tells that would otherwise give them away. I don't agree that it is a *good* tactic, but it is valid as a last resort.

On Day 2+. just no. There is NEVER nothing to go on. Everyone has suspicions, and should be acting on them, not hididng under the no lynch rock. The moment people want 'proof' or 'something bigger to go on', the game is putty in the mafia's hands.

^THIS

Seems to me everyone just agrees with you because... your creature. I'm glad to see you have decent reasoning behind it! I do very much agree with the above statement... but still, you don't ALWAYS have to no lynch. I just wanted to make a point about how just because people think it's 'bad' to no lynch doesn't mean we should count it out.
