running a striaght edge of something like a ruler with a lot of pressure can help cause curling or strach, steam and a rack to hold it on position

There are a few options for this, and I'd love to say right now, but is this for a cosplay contest?

Unfortunately I didn't succeed, haha!

Use bias binding, or a strip of fabric cut on the bias instead of ribbon

Yep :) Bias tape made or bought is the best option. Definitely going to give far more control over matching colour and texture :)
basically cut fabric twice the width you want the final result to be and iron the edges into the middle then pin in place and sew merrily. There are online guides to make your own bias tape :) You may need to press some of the sharper curves to shape before sewing as well.

If you have bought your ribbon already it is possibly to sew along one side gather it to shape and steam/iron it as flat as possible before sewing to the fabric. This is better though for a decorative trim such as a brocade ribbon etc that you cannot replicate in bias trim. There definitely are online guides to this but I cannot find them anywhere...
Ironing can lead to melting of most ribbons though so keep the temperature quite low.

You could also make the trim shaped to fit, but again that is better for other examples (a wider band for instance).

And think about whether you want to machine sew it in place (stitches will show as a solid line) hand sew (stitches will show as small pin pricks but not be as noticeable) or use a fusing (but be careful of which as they are not all equal and some could make the ribbon/trim rather rigid).

Thank you all!
I will try that method with the ribbon first, since I already have it. Then try with bias tape if(/when?) that fails XD
