Wellington Cosplay Ball - details!

SO GUYS! Who's excited? We're excited! We have a VENUE and are working on finalising a date for the ball next March! In the 'User run events' sub-forum, there are threads with details and requests for input to the organising of the shindig - including a poll on what the theme should be. Only seven votes so far, so chop chop - voting will be open for another two weeks, then we'll pick whatever comes out on top :)

We are aiming this thing at you guys, and really want everyone to have a say so everyone can enjoy it and participate. Any suggestions are welcome, along with criticisms - open fire guys, we'll take it like the under-muscled, pasty white not-men we are XP VOTE VOTE VOTE!

We have a ball committee! Hello and welcome to Mischa, lilapmedia, theromanticapple and Doughtnut_Bandit! First meeting went very well, and we've come back with a number of things...including a tentative date.

At this point, the 2010 Wellington Cosplay Ball is dated for March! This should give everybody time to come back from holidays, and won't clash with exams or anything like that. We're also looking at working with Bill to hold it on one of the nights of Wellygeddon, but we're not finalised on that yet.

The main objections to holding a ball every year were that it was too much hassle for organising - but look! We now have a committee! So clear those calendars for next year people, there will be a big, shiny COSPLAY BALL coming up!

[spoiler]NOMINATIONS NOW CLOSED. We'll get in touch with peoples very shortly :) And by very shortly I mean after I hand in my death assignment of DOOOOOM and get a chance to catch up with mightydelemma.

OKAY SO! Last WCB was fantastic, and we want to do it again, better! I know that everyone was in favour of having it every second year - we want to start organising it now. Basically me, mightydelemma, iwuvanime and JP are looking for a few more people (3 or 4, maybe 5) to join the organising comittee. Instead of having user nominations and a vote, we'd like to invite people to PM mightydelemma or myself with a little blurb as to why they want the job.

CHOP CHOP PEOPLE CLOSING DATE IS COMING UP!

I really don't want people to feel left out or discluded by not just being able to jump on board...but we need people who are really comitted and aren't going to start out all gung-ho and then drop out when we need them. We'll nee you to be based in Wellington (unless you are SO AWESOME we can't resist poaching you from elsewhere in the country ) and able to meet up every fortnight or so to discuss ball-stuff. This will more than likely also include eating delicious things while we discuss IMPORTANT!things.

For the next ball, we want to make it FANCY. We're taking all we learnt from the WCB, and improving. Been looking at the Grand International Cosplay Ball ( http://www.grandcosplayball.com/ ) for inspiration and although we won't have one that big, there's no reason we can't make it one of the highlights of the con season in New Zealand. WE THINK BIG.

So if you think your comittment to the cause is better than anybody else's, if you're as excited as we are, and if you can guarantee (well, within reason, of course) your availibility over the next year and a bit and are prepared to do the hard yards then please PM us and let us know! WE WANT YOU!

EDIT: Bah! Forgot cutoff date - June 1st. Gives you just over a month to put yourself forward :) Also, we will be using the forums LOTS to bounce ideas around, so pretty much everyone will be involved in some way, shape or form

I am seriously interested, but I don't know about meeting up every fortnight. 'Cause I'm not in Uni just yet, my time is very structured for the most part.
Would it be better if I simply don't apply?

Um...not sure. Things like school, uni and parents do tend to spring up to surprise you with demands on your time (lol) but by all means, if you have a more relaxed schedule/parental unit (or one who wants to be involved too) then by all means, apply - lol, apply. It makes us sound so official. Just PM us and let us know what's what. We're only limiting comittee members so we have fewer issues trying to round everybody up at the same time, and the more people interested and enthusiastic, the better!

Oh yes - meetups will more than likely be on sunday mornings, if that helps.

I'd LOVE to be involved, but I don't think I can do that level of commitment, at least, not this year.

Lol, the whole forum? XP Seriously, although we'd make the final decisions and do most of the annoying admin-y stuff and serious organising, votes would more than likely be taken on ideas, help asked for in advertising, sponsorship, etc. from the community at large. You guys are the ones we'd be doing it for Razz
