Transmen have some great tips! http://www.ftmguide.org/binding.html (many do it every day while waiting for chest surgery, so the advice is aimed at long term use)

Hmmm I remember the Australian Armageddon winner at Auck'geddon recommended Underworks to me (I couldn't remember the name until I saw it mentioned here!) cos the compression vest I had didn't seem to be working well D: I was like "I am actually wearing one! D:".

I was wondering, what thickness/width of sports bandage do all you leet crossplayers normally use?

I'm sure someone else will give a better answer, but generally afaik the widest bandage you can find since it helps spread the erm. load? and stops it from cutting in. The wider it is the less likely is is to roll up in the middle. Thickness I don't think is crucial as long as it's strong enough not to tear/break.

^what jp said c:

widest you can find.
if i have to use several layers of bandages, i use the widest ones first, then the second widest, etc... and the narrowest bandages last. the widest bandages i have with me are 13cm in width. (:

if things look a little 'lumpy' after binding, i find using the narrower bandages over the wider bandages help to even things out a little. alternatively, a close-fitting singlet or similar does the trick.

When I used bandages I wore a leotard over the top which helped to even it out.

Biggest problem for me is can't find any bandage wider than 2 inches. I've tried pharmacies and sports stores. Anywhere else I could look?

Try this:

http://www.safetyandrescue.co.nz/shop/FIRST+AID/Bandages/Wide+Open+Wave+Bandage.html

Has up to 10cm wide bandages, and only $0.92 (92cents) per meter.

@Ravin: Try, like, Anglesea clinic? It's probably a bit better than pharmacies.

This may sound stingy or whatever, but I'd prefer trying one out first to buying it straight away. XD

I have to say to those concerned with playing characters with smaller busts for Cosplay - I like to use the term "willing suspension of belief" this means that others will willingly overlook the fact that you're not quite the right shape as you have the guts to wear the costume and have recreated it as accurately as possible.

Personally I Cosplayed as Leeloo from the Fifth Element a couple of years back and do not have the A-cup that Milla Jovovich has (opposite end of the scale - tiny across the back I'm more like a 6-8 than the smallest 10 you can get and an E-F depending on brand) and no one mentioned anything. Also noone mentioned to me the fact that I didn't have a perfectly flat stomach (I'm a size 6 pant-wise but my stomach refuses to co-operate and be flat.) I blame it on being an hourglass.

At this point I choose not to Crossplay (mostly haven't found a costume I WANT to crossplay) so I choose female characters or creatures where my bustline works to my advantage. A friend and I did the goblin king and a fiery from the Labyrinth and I dressed in the fiery costume where my curves were an advantage.

Though I have to say, having checked out a few of the links and Static's corset-type suggestion I would probably be more inclined to look at male costumes in future. (However, I'm a sucker for group projects where this isn't entirely necessary.)

My 2 cents worth... =D
