So... Paper clay... Celluclay... Noob alert...
Post By Kuro96. 16/02/14, 08:02 am

Sorry if there is already been posted, but I can't seem to see one... being ever so observant like always
Has anyone heard/worked with/even seen paper clay/celluclay?
Just remember, I'm pretty much a noob so a whole heap of jargon would be pretty much confusing for me
And now a story of stupidity...
I decided to use the paper mache tutorial (http://doxiequeen1.wordpress.com/2010/12/13/how-to-make-a-lightweight-cosplay-sword-tutorial/ --I can't find the other post thingy that explains the method thoroughly but it was based off that this one) for two arm brace thingys and a sword... lacking materials for any other method
I am practically done...
Except for the celluclay... Of which I have no idea where to find!! D:
Has anyone worked with this mystical material?
(more importantly actually;) Does anyone know if you can get it in NZ?
Any ideas?
An alternative?

Let me crawl into a corner and die
Fortunately I've found a recipe *gasp* and it should be smooth sailing for now...
If anyone's curious, this is the 'celluclay' recipe I found;

If you do end up wanting to buy it, Spotlight sells it. But it is rather dare for what you get so making it is probably the best option.

Good luck :)

You can get Jovi Paperclay in white or terracotta brown, they are sandable and dries to a slightly lighter colour. You can also wet your finger and smooth the clay down too.

There's the Paper Magiclay which dries rubbery and is not really sandable. It dries really light, so whatever you make you need to get it almost perfect before you let it dry. Keep the rest of your clay covered up (with gladwrap, perhaps), because on hot days like these they dry while you're working with them. :)

As they say there are several paper clay brand around. I have no experience working it.

Spotlight has all that stuff, and it's almost impossible to talk to a staff member.

Hands in Normans Road are a craft store and have heaps more staff, who are always ready to talk you through the various supplies and processes. So if you are unsure about stuff in the future it's nice to actually go and see the product and get advice.

Of course either spotlight or hands will charge reasonable amounts of money. Some things are cheaper in bulk from specialist suppliers.

I bought some paper clay from the Takapuna Art Supplies website but it was pretty expensive so I resorted to making my own at home. I didn't follow any recipe but it was basically normal clay + dissolved toilet paper (it's much easier to break down! the paper was left in a bowl of boiled water for a couple of days uwu), mixed really well together until it became a clayish yet paper-y texture.. Can't remember the ratio now I'm afraid! but when it dried it was like a fibrous clay that was easy to sand :)
Pretty easy to work with! Here's a picture of the armour (excluding the arms) I made with it n_n:

Thank you!! That's a good idea! bookmarking for next time
I tried it ironically enough finished 30mins ago but the clay/dissolved toilet paper sounds like a better option :)
Thank you everyone~
