paper mache ingredients?
Post By Seakittens. 26/03/13, 09:26 am

Hi! What do you put in paper mache, as in the glue part? I heard that you put water and flour together but that sounds like it might not be the best way of doing it. Any other ideas?

Yeah, water down PVA and it not only holds everything together, but hardens it a little bit as well. Weel outdoor PVA hardens things, I noticed that the Indoor PVA didn't harden things up as much

Pva works well but I use wall paper paste Razz It comes in little granules you mix with water to turn into glue. Pretty much craft paste. So either PVA or paste. I personally prefer paste.

While water and flour does work, because it's made of a food item, it attracts a lot of bugs like flies ... /knows from experience 8Db

I always just use water and flour Razz Makes your hands go gross so I wash them constantly though xP I think next time I'll try watering down pva.

I've been using the flour and water mix for all my big sister stuff... Azeria speaks the truth you are constantly washing your hands XD. It is a nice cheap option if you have a lot to do.

However because is is flour and water you have to make sure it is drying fully or it may start to grow mold...so wouldn't recommend it if you are making something with lots of nooks and crannies.

Watered down pva does work well and so does wallpaper paste :)

Also, water+flour makes it heavier <: when Tahlee and I made our keyblades, I used water+flour, and she used PVA. And mine was quite a bit heavier than hers!

That's a really basic tutorial...

If you are trying to make a mask moulded off your own face I would recommend plaster bandages, they are quite cheap and and easy to use plus they dry quickly :p

They are a bit heavy compared but you really only need one or two layers to create a base then you can paper mâché on top :)

hhhhmmm!!! ok
it's not supposed to look like a human face at all so maybe i'll start off with cardboard as a base and go from there :|a

we'll see...

@Caddyl- you could also try buying one of those full face masks, then modify it from there? Even if it's not meant to look human, a good starting base always helps <:
