Planing and group cosplay
Post By Mr freelance. 10/08/12, 05:30 am

I have some questions about cosplay and the planing for it
1) When should I begin planing for my cosplay for the con?
2) Is it ok asking people online to join your group coslpay?
3) Do I need to build a social link with people online before asking them to join me or join them?
AND 4) is it better making your own cosplay or buying it?

1) as soon as possible is probably the best answer, but I guess it comes down to how long it will take you to make something of just how complex a something have you chosen to make.
Most folk start very last minute, and stress right up until the last day...

2) of course - but as with all things be aware that you may or may not get people interested...

3) It is probably a good idea to get to know people a bit before grouping with them, but again we've had groups happen without too much contact. Just dont expect them to be the "perfect group" as you dont necessarily know everyones personalities and skill levels yet.

4) while bought costumes are only slightly frowned at, general consensus will be that it is better to make your own. No one will be utterly horrified at you for buying a costume though, and a lot of what influences peoples opinions of you (bought costume or not) is how you act while wearing it!

Good luck, and have fun!

Pretty much what Kitten said~

as for groups, we've had plenty of groups organised on the forum where the people haven't even met each other till on the day! Just post up a thread saying what group and character you're going to do and you'd be surprised how many may end up jumping in C:

For the bought or made costumes; it depends on where you buy them and your own skill level. Say if you bought a costume from a cheaper seller off ebay, the quality and accuracy can be a little off. But if you went to a proper commissioner (like Static on the forums) then it'll be of higher quality. It'll cost more but you're definitely paying for what you get C:
And that's the same for sewing it yourself. Depending on how complex the costume it can get extremely time consuming, but! You'll learn lots of skills and it's pretty awesome to see your hard work materialise and be able to wear it in the end xD

Thank you icarus and kitten slave Very Happy ( freelance hugs both of you)
But in all seriousness. for me when it comes to online groups , I feel like i need to build some sort soical connection to the people in group but if i don't then it feels like I'm not worthy to be companying he/she. also my friend said that you really have to be caution around people online because you won't know what may happen.

for designing a cosplay well i can't make my own cosplay, even if it means life or death and yes i know people look down on people who buy it
