| Before I reply to the rest... did you just say Captain Jack?? As in Captain Jack Harkness!!!! And Jayne Cobb?
I think I love you. Marry me!
I may be only an anime/manga cosplayer, but that doesn't mean I only watch anime and manga. I haven't seen Dr.Who the new series since they got rid of Rose but i do love Torchwood. And Firefly! OMG! I so love that show! Jayne is definitely a favourite. Him and Simon and River :)
And I love Guns n Roses too :)
Thanks for the pics hehehe you guys look like a fun group :)
Ah right, well NZ seems like a wider spectrum of cosplay than here. Cause here it's very very japanese centric. On top of anime/manga/game cosplay, we also have a J-rock cosplayers. So really most Japanese stuff gets the highlight within the community... though i have a friend who wants to do Disney cosplay, and another who planned a Scooby doo cosplay project. There was also a lovely Human version Transformers cosplay group held by a friend which i was unfortunately not able to get into in time but they were awesome!
hahaha i can understand not wanting a costume to go to waste. |

| We hardly ever have J-rock cosplayers ... We have fans of the bands, but no one really cosplays them. Then again, you can probably get away with it better if you're actually asian xDD.
We actually have quite a lot of game cosplayers here ... The best overall in New Zealand/Australia was from Granado Espada (we have a competition between the two countries) best from Australia was Xena Warrior Princess, best group at auckland was Granado Espada, best Solo was Warhammer xDD. And then anime and manga is quite popular too. Most things I've cosplayed from have been anime or manga series .
I think our cosplay scene mostly comes from Japanese culture, but recently we've had a lot of NZers wanting to cosplay from American comic series xDDD or Disney Princesses, haha. |

| I am going to shamelessly plug Doctor Who... you are missing out on some sweet sweet scriptwriting! The new series with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan (the 11th Doctor and companion) is so awesome, I just, don't even. My fav character is Rory. ;D
And on topic, I agree with the cosplays here having much more variety. There's heaps of stuff from games and TV shows (not necessarily anime and manga from Japan) that people tend to cosplay from. :) We've got a great community. |

Did you just say I get a woman, and I don't even have to part with Vera. Well let me think, something, for nothing, equals ... Maybe the fame of the Hero of Canton is spreading, or maybe the attractive hat? Wait, you are not psychotic like the captains new wife? But seriously maybe we should have a talk over drink, first ...? Also I may have danced with Kitten in drag, and I may think he is a gentleman, but I don't plan on sharing with him.
We have been planning a Firefly group for ages, but I don't think anyone has started yet. But did you say you wanted to be River Tam? Pretty simple to make!
I haven't seen the modern Dr. Who, I'm stuck in a time warp. But I have seen some Torchwood. And I needed a cosplay in a hurry, and I had an airforce greatcoat. The cosplay was not quite accurate to the Torchwood reference picture. Not sure if I will ever finish it off properly. |

| Sorry for the slow reply, i've been really busy with coming here :) sorry i missed the picnic.
Pura: that's true... asians get away with quite a few things... guys crossplaying for one. Plus in Thailand we're very on Japanese and Korean things. More so than american and western things you could say...
hehe i don't know anything about games. I'm mostly anime/manga myself. I watch more western tv than most thais but my cosplays are still more geared towards japanese media. I have one friend who wants to do disney but hasn't decided on which yet... I myself want to be Rider Flynn... but i don't have a rapunzel.
Rolly: thing is, i downloaded new seasons of Dr. Who with every intention of continuing watching the series... then my external harddrive broke and every single western show was mostly obliterated. I didn't feel like getting everything back since by then i was already more into anime.
And it might be interesting to try other stuff too... though my plate is already so full it might be a long time before i do.
Highlander: Of course! I know who the no.1 women in your life is! Anyone who truly loves Jayne Cobb would never try to come between him and Vera!
And don't worry, i'm harmless *blink blink* *makes innocent face* *hides knife*
Ooo i wanna dance with Kitten in drag tooo!
hahaha i don't know how to make anything. That's the problem. I intend to hire a tailor in thailand to make my outfits, come back and collect it over school break. Being River might be a bit hard for me. I have no sewing talent... so far the only thing i've really done myself is the face paint for characters. I might learn to make my own weapons at some point, but i'm not so sure about sewing.
Be interesting to be River though... it's very very very very very rare that i cosplay a girl. I'm predominantly a crossplayer... even if i have a rather girlish face and can't pull off manly to save my life. I just don't really care, i feel better in crossplay than as a girl.
That's ok :) As long as you can pull off Captain Jack's attitude ;) |

I guess that's the thing, we have plenty of people who come to Armageddon for the guest panels because they are a fan of a certain show. And then they notice all the costumes. Then they start dressing up, in whatever they are a fan of. And them some of us get sucked into the cosplay scene. But I still do stuff because I am a fan of the show. And I know others do. So if they are a fan of only certain things, or lots of things, that's what they play. Or like me more stuff now that the cons introduced me to anime. But then there are those so into costuming they just go oh, pretty costume, I will add that to my list, (currently five years long).
I do intend to get more into the character side of the cosplays (which is lacking in New Zealand). So I guess if I decide to do Captain Jack again I will want to watch Torchwood, at least a couple of seasons, right through first. I plan to have lots of fun with Sgt. Sagara. I mean how much trouble can I possibly get into with security?
As for River, shes not so much a girl, as a girl who's brains been messed around with by the government. So she would be the most fun character to play ever. And I think really easy to play too, but that may just be the way my brain works. Sadly I don't think I can really pass for a 15y.o. girl.
As for her costume, some second hand boots, a pair of socks, buy some hot pants, and a black dress (cheap store or second hand), maybe a straight wig, done. Really the easiest cosplay ever. Well that and (serial experiment) Lain. The weapons out of the last scene of serenity, I have never done a prop, but they look easy enough to do.
PS. I don't think anyone will ever get me to cosplay a woman. But that doesn't mean I won't cosplay a guy who wears a skirt. My historical personna doesn't wear trousers, just long tunnics (called a lenee, they are Irish.) |

| I have lots of western shows! We should have a external party sometime xDDD. (Although not Dr Who ... but I'm pretty sure I know people in Welly who do have it xD).
I hardly know much about games either. I hardly ever play games, but they seem to be the thing that have the coolest designs xD. But I generally don't have time to play games anyway. (Although I really want to cosplay from the .hack//GU games =w=)
I've sorta wondered about cosplaying as Rapunzel but I don't know if I ever would end up cosplaying her xD
hehehe, while surrounded by wellingtonians who can sew you can learn to sew too! Hannah and I quite often get together and sew, so I'm sure you'd be welcome to tag along, even if it only to just talk while we sew xD. (She lives just up from Vic Uni too... for now xD) |

| Highlander: In Thailand panels aren't so big here. Especially not guests though like i said, we did have Thai-Japan Anime Music Festival, and a Miku concert.
hahaha have fun with security. I'd love to see it.
As for River, I know she's not much of a girl, but sometimes i just feel more comfortable in male cosplays... that said I do want to cosplay girls, but only the messed up ones. I have types for who i like to cosplay. For guys, I like ones that aren't so cute, I like the more butch characters despite the fact that my face is anything BUT butch. I have large anime-ish eyes and a round face, actually very good for cosplaying anime girls but I just don't like it hahaha.
I do cosplay some milder male characters too though. And i also like to cosplay a guy who's crossdressing... but not girls hehe, it's kinda weird.
For girls i'm more specific. I like messed up tragic female characters for cosplaying so River actually fits the bill perfectly. The girls i want to cosplay are Princess Euphemia from Code Geass, who at the end was controled by Lelouch (her half brother) to massecre Japanese people, i want to cosplay her with a gun in her hands and covered in blood. And i want to cosplay Chikane from Kannauki no Miko, whom near the end raped her female love interest, in order to make the girl hate her enough to kill her... it's complicated. Then i want to cosplay Nina Wong, from Mai-Otome who fell in love with her own adopted father, who was in love with the heroine, her best friend, and then accidentally killed her other best friend and then became used as a weapon to massecre people by the bad guys.
So yeah, River fits right up there.
hahah i'd like to see you TRY to pass for a 15 yr old girl.
I might have to look at River's picture again... My favourite outfit of hers was from the movie, the first dress she wore in it had one long sleeve one short sleeve and an uneven skirt that i really liked. Buuut that would definitely be a difficult one, and not the most recognizable of her outfits.
And good luck with the skirt :) i like those too.
Pura: That sounds good, as long as i can get a costume with my limited amount of cash it should be ok. I should learn to cosplay here, cause in thailand i get to cosplay and get as difficult a costume as i want since the tailors aren't that expensive. Here i would need a different strategy.
For western shows i like, there's Smallville have been my beloved since a long time ago. Then there's Supernatural, Gossip Girl, Buffy (my first love you could say), Angel, Chuck, Firefly, Reaper, Merlin, Torchwood, Queer as Folk and i used to be really really into Glee but the later seasons i kinda lost interest. There's also the L word, the OC, Veronica Mars, Popular (don't know if anyone still knows that one), Dark Angel. And like i said, i watched Dr. Who but only the first 2 seasons. I'm in love with 9th, when he left i was sooooo devastated.
I also watched Dexter and briefly, Vampire Diaries.
That was before i got into anime. Then anime kinda took over hehe.
And i'd really really love that, thank you :) |

So what do you actually do in a Thai Anime/Cosplay convention?
Boy you do have weird taste in girls. Me too. But, no, I don't think I would be seen as anything other than a creepy joke. I do 19yo guys, that is enough. There are enough fun guys to play. (Actually if I ever did cross play it would be as likely to a tomboy like Ed (who people always assume is a boy anyway) or Kaolla Su.) Man Kaolla Su could cause all sorts of havoc.
For a kilt, I think skill more than luck. Sweat. I have a whole book full of instructions. I have imported over $200 of material. Walk into a scottish shop. How much for 8m of tartan. $800. And lighter weight. $800. Wow, what does it cost to have a kilt made up then. $800. Um, I think I will import my own material, thanks.
You sound like you could do a Chibi River? I will look at the movie later, and give an opinion. |

| We have a Code Geass group for Auckland Armageddon which you're welcome to join if you're able to get up to Auckland (AuckGeddon is in October).
How long are in in New Zealand for? Is it just for this year, or longer? |

| Highlander: It depends on the con... because we have 2 cons a month, or more, (sometimes every week) each con isn't a summary of everything fandom related like it is here (from what i can tell). You have ones which do have guests like i said, like the Anime Music Festival, but there's doujinshi cons, ones which focus more on selling merchandise, game oriented ones. Often there's an auction at every con, sometimes performances by cosplayers, karaoke. Very very often you will have a cosplay competition. We also have anime specific conventions, like 'Reborn Only', 'Ultimate Galaxy' (Saint Seiya con), K-On Party, Vocaloid Party etc.
There are also charity events which isn't a con at all but rather, charity groups sometimes like to invite cosplayers to come as part of the attraction to get people's attention to the event.
Last year a theme park also said free admissions to all cosplayers for a day for their 10 year aniversary too, because we as cosplayers bring attention, we help them advertise without actually costing them anything. Usually at cosplay events that aren't conventions, ones set up by charity groups or at department stores and theme parks, they will have a cosplay parade.
hahaha i understand. Though creepy jokes can be fun too. And i have no idea who any of the characters you just mentioned are. Kilt sounds really expensive though.
I'm kind of overweight. I'd make a really chubby River
Pura: The problem is i'm not sure i can get anything done in time to join any group. I already have cosplay projects waiting for me at home when i go back for the holidays and outfits need to be made for that too. And Princess Euphemia doesn't sound like an outfit that will come cheap.
As for me, i will stay in NZ at least for a year, at most 3 years, depending on whether i can get a scholarship for a master's or not. If not i will have to find a cheaper place to study.

Chibi's are not meant to be in proportion.
Um, Ed the computer hacker kid from cowboy bebop, who looks and acts like a boy, but says she is a girl apparently.
Kaolla Su, a 14 year old girl/tomboy from Hinata apartments (Love Hina). She is hyperactive, runs around a lot, glomps people a lot, likes eating. Always building things out of nothing, like the giant flying robot turtle, which she go bored with, and hence threw away. (It made more robot turtles, founded a turtle civilization in the underground bunker by the apartment. When discovered they attacked the apartment, and Kaolla held them off with improvised toy weapons.) Hence collects ALOT of junk. Her room is a jungle recreation of her home country, in which it turns out she is a princess. And it turns out a magical princess. So the unexpected really weird crazy episodes in the middle of a normal Japanese teen drama/soap tend to be hers. |

| What do you mean by chibi then? Because i get a lot of comments about being Chibi... ChibiBunny ChibiRenji etc.
I never saw that anime, but i have heard the name.
And her! Oh i remember now. From Love Hina, the one with darker skin right? I don't remember that much because I only saw a little bit of Love Hina but never really finished it. |

I believe Chibi in Japanese means small. Ie, you are a small person. However in Anime it means characters drawn out of proportion. Normally small body, large head. While it is possible to make a whole anime in Chibi style, it's normally reserved for certain surreal scenes, or super cute scenes. Often associated with cute. Including all the key-chains/figurines/stickers/etc., of Chibi versions of all your favorite anime characters. (Although to say something is cute you say something is Kawaii.)
For example I bet you never thought safety barriers were Kawaii,
