Wig Styling
Post By Vincent_Ruthven. 16/01/12, 10:47 pm

Im trying to hunt down some suitable information on styling a wig to a particular design,
What can I use to make a wig hold its shape after styling it?
But without gluing the hair together in a solid piece

It might be helpful if you post a picture of what you're trying to do and achieve. :)

Usually a level 5 Schwartzkopf hair spray is enough to make the wig hair hold in position. For crazy crazy hair-dos, even using (watered down) PVA glue would work.

Hmm, when I styled my Ventus wig, I used V05 hairspray for the basic shape ( like individuality holding up each spike, spraying, then holding for about 5 minutes ) then I used a small blob of taft full on hair gel on the ends of each spike to keep them together.

I would also recommend adhesive spraying over the wig, which will glue it into place for much longer. I didn't adhesive spray, so after Auckgeddon, most of the spikes had come undone.

Does this help :3

since my hair has been cut short, Im wanting to sculpt a wig in the form of Sebastians hair from Black Butler, but what are the different methods out there, and for future projects too.

Also would it be possible to recolour a wig at all?
Is there a type of Dye that can work for this?

well apart from what I mentioned above, I'm not sure of any other methods ^__^

As for dying this is a good method to use http://tothewigshop.blogspot.com/2007/10/wig-dying-for-dummies.html and when I dyed my own wigs, I just brought a vivid marker of whatever colour, dismantled it and squeezed the ink cartridge out into a bucket :3

You can add spiking glue to the list, you can get it at supermarkets. It will hold the ends of the spikes together. But then so will PVA. Not sure if PVA washes out of wigs. Any hair spray will work for the rest, but it can take quite a bit of spray. Costly brands won't add anything, remember it does not behave like hair.

The quality of the wig will affect the dying. Nylon is just about impossible. Obviously a light blond or white wig could be dyed a darker colour. But I don't think you could bleach wigs. I imagine bad things happening, and as the dye is inside the plastic I doubt it would work. There are tutorials on CNZ and cosplay.com. But there is no gaurentee on any of it.
