Metal Props?
Post By 悪魔. 07/01/12, 04:31 pm

Hey I usually make things using metal eg i making kakashi anbu with metal armour and a bit of extra armour too. I'm wondering does armageddon expo allow metal or would i be better to look for alternatives?

In regards to armour, metal is fine. Metal prop weaponry on the other hand is not allowed. In regards to weaponry, the general rule is if someone randomly swung it around and it got a kid and hurt them bad enough to bruise, the prop is not con-safe.

Oh k thanks, Um in that case what about armour that sticks out slightly, eg my shoulder is a half moon shape but it goes about 8cm past the edge of my shoulder. If i spun quickly into a short person i could get eyes possibly but very unlikely. frankly ive worn more dangerous stuff in a cramped place and danced the makarera in it lol

^Maybe if you just made the edges blunt so they couldn't hurt anyone? Just in case?

I guess there is three sets of rules.

1) The competition if you are entering it. I would always check with michaela via the armageddon site. Generally making props with significant amounts of metal, heavy wood, sharp edges, etc, in case someone drops the prop on stage and it hits a kid in the audience is not all right. (I think I can design weapons which will stand up to metal weapons, and still be safe!) Armour shouldn't fall off the same, so as long as there's no sticky outy bits.

2) The convention or convention center rules. The only one I know of is that the Auckland venue will not allow you to draw a metal sword, even if it is just for a static photo, even if it's only a couple of inches. But a 10Kg piece of wood you can swing around like crazy! If in doubt ask Bill via the armageddon web site.

3) Liability/Guilt. Be sensible, all the cons have choke points, and people don't think and squash up. So you want it to not break, but not break anyone.

My suggestion is that you roll the edge of the armour to be safe.
