First wig help?
By ROCKiwi. 05/11/11, 05:21 pm |
| Hi, for my next cosplay I'm doing Spain from aph and it'll be my first time using a wig. I was wondering whether I should get a wig online since I can get better quality wigs or I should get one of those $5~15 wigs that I can get from one of those super cheap stores. Preferably to not get it online since my parents will somewhat be angry if they found out I have been cosplaying. but the wigs that I can get locally are mostly thin and I don't know if they're stylable. so should I get it online or local?
another question is will this be hard to style? tips?

| For Spain, I think it would be a good idea to invest in a non-party wig. Wigs from online stores like some on eBay and taobao can have fibres that are easy to style, and would be good for making Spain's tufty hair. Most wigs come relatively unstyled, sometimes layered, but if the fibres are thick and textured enough- e.g. [this wig from Fantasy Sheep] perhaps you would be able to just grab little tufts with your fingers, cut/thin them a little and then apply some hairspray to the tips, until you get the shape and style you want?
If you have problems with buying online, there miiiiiight be some people here on CNZ, or cosplayers in your area that will do group orders from websites, or be willing to take payment via bank deposit to buy wigs for you with their debit/credit cards.
However, do you really think it is a practical idea to hide your cosplaying from your parents? I think the financial cost and personal safety risks (e.g. unsavoury people, hanging out with strangers) are what put most parents off cosplay, and some just have a problem with anime in general. But maybe if you take time to explain how cosplay is pretty harmless, you can keep yourself safe (maybe take some friends?) and that you can spend your money responsibly it could save you a lot of stress. They might freak out if they find wigs and cosplay stuff around the house without explanation, or find photos of you in a cosplay that you've done without telling them. Could you possibly reach a compromise with them about how much time/money you spend cosplaying? |

| Thanks for the tips, the only problem I have with my parents is that they want me to be a study machine. I will consider getting someone to help me with online payments. |

| | Every one needs a way to blow off stress, and a creative and constructive hobby might just be what your looking for. As long as you're responsible about how you manage your time I'm sure your parent wouldn't have a problem. It's all about balance :) |
