Tablets vs. Mouse
Post By L00fahxxJUnki3. 21/10/11, 02:51 pm

Since i don' has myself a tablet -too poor- i must use mouse. The work is painstaking and the results are less than admirable.
Considering this, are tablets easy to use?
DO you prefer tablet or mouse? Or another method o.o -TELL ME! :)-

Also i'd love to see any art ^^ -state whether you used mouse or tablet yes?-

I've got a Wacom Intuos3. It's really good and makes it real easy to draw. Don't do that much drawing though tbh, but use the tablet lots in my graphic design work.

Here's a sketch using it that I started like a year and a half ago:

I can't see how people can draw anything using a mouse. I find it amazing that people are able to xD

I have a cheap crappy tablet, and don't do much drawing. But for drawing it's much better than a mouse. If I did much drawing I would get a larger better tablet. But just a cheap as one, as long as it's not the really small ones, makes a difference.

That is a good price for a bamboo. But if you don't have that much then even a $60 tablet is an improvement.

N00b Q: Would a medium sized tablet be enough for drawing?

If a smaller one is all you can afford, it's good enough. (I forget what size is considered small, medium or large heh orz)

I'm still using my Wacom Bamboo from five years ago, got the smallest size I could since I couldn't afford any bigger, and even though I still dream of buying a bigger one one size up eventually, my tiny tablet's serving me well still. Of course, I'm only a hobbyist and draw for fun so....

EDIT: my tablet's a 4" x 6", and i still manage to chunk out stuff like here. as mentioned, it's a bit small but it's definitely useable.

Mine's 21cm x 16cm. I think it's about 8x6". Wouldn't go for anything much smaller or you can't do a proper stroke with your pen (if you get what I mean).

Mine's too small for my liking, and I've got a Wacom Bamboo FUN Medium size. I've had it for a couple years and if you're looking for a tablet that lasts, go with Wacom, definitely.

Only reason mine feels too small is because I'm used to drawing on A4 and A3 paper so I'm used to having all the room and switching between the two puts me off.

the one I use is a USB ultra slim drawing tablet. it's 30cm by 25cm. got it under $200. it's got pressure sensors which it great. if you continue drawing, I recommend you use a tablet or later you will pay the price with your shoulder. nono

Of course you have already decided. But for anyone else I agree with ROCKiwi. Chances of OOS/carpel tunnel/tennis elbow/etc are very much higher with intensive mouse use. And these can be lifelong problems affecting doing pretty much anything. But even with tablets or normal drawing still watch the way you hold/use the pen and any level of fatigue in the hand/arm/shoulder. You should be relaxed when doing anything. Take micro breaks and breaks and stretch when needed. Set your work area up properly. Of course drawing should have relatively few of these problems. But mice are one of the worse thing ever invented for causing gradual injuries.
