[Buyer] Wanted: Manga Artists for new VN!

Hi guys! I'm after Manga Artists to draw characters for an upcoming Visual Novel I'm working on.

The novel is sci fi based and set in the future, with the main characters being High School students
on a spaceship. As this is my first attempt at making a VN, I'm not looking at anything too fancy this time around, but the art needs to be done in colour and look good!

As an example, this level of detail is fine:

The process will be like this:
1) I will provide the artist with a written brief on the character, and some ideas of what they look like.
2) The artist will go away and develop a visual concept of the character, and some different samples for me to select from
3) I will select and work with the artist to refine this character, and detail the different poses I want
4) The artist will create colour pictures of the character in the different poses
5) I will then piece together the Visual Novel
6) If required I will then get the Artist to draw any 'special scenes' or background pics

Payment prices will be negotiable depending on quality and timeliness, but payment will occur based on
1) Character concept- half payment at the beginning when the brief is assigned, second half once I've chosen from the samples and refined the character. Note: There will be a character concept payment for each individual character i.e. do more than one character,
and get more than one payment.
2) Payment for each colour picture produced, regardless of if it is a character pic, background pic or 'special scene'.

Note: The visual novel is a not for profit production, basically so I can get some skills in creating VNs.
Any coloured pics used will remain the property of the original artist (and will be credited as such), but I will gain the right to use them in this and any future Not-for-Profit VNs I create- in case I have spin-offs. If at any time I do decide to create a Commercial Visual Novel, I cannot use your pictures without your express approval, and a new negotiation should be entered into.

Phew! Now that's all said- all willing applicants please post a reply below, detailing your previous experience as an artist, and samples of your work (e.g. dA accounts- I will send a Note to the dA accounts to ensure that it is a CNZer). If you have any relevant sci fi knowledge/fandoms, that will also be worth mentioning!

I'm kinda curious about what approach are you going to do..

Are you doing some programming stuff or are you gonna use a VN software maker?

I'm using the free program Ren'Py (www.renpy.org)- thanks to Creature124 for the recommendation. I ran through the tutorial today, and it looks simple enough for me to use.
Ofcourse I won't really know until I get started, but every journey begins with a few small steps!

oh yea I saw that program too.. I want to do some VN as well but sad to say, I got no artistic skill for drawing sketches and stuff.. I could manage to do some programming but the software is just simple that it doesn't need any programming at all..

Anyway good luck with that!!

^^My thinking is the same as Lucy's - I'm very interested, but I definitely can't commit to anything until at least November/December, which might be too far away for what you're after, hahah.

@Seraphik and JVCA: I'm hoping to select the artists around mid September, so that I can provide the brief but wont look to really get into Step 2 until after Auckgeddon November December anyway.

Gives me a bit more time to nail down the story, and play around with the Ren'Py program.

not sure if my art style is appropriate for what you're looking for, but here goes i guess
art tag on tumblr, and doodle tag (basically same as art tag, but includes sketches, unpolished artwork, work-in-progress images and screenshots etc). i don't have a lot of stuff up there yet, since i only started tumbling in april this year and i don't upload drawings to devART anymore but i do have some old art samples on a dead subeta artshop thread from around midyear last year with a bigger variety of styles and characters (thread shouldn't require an account to view).

i can't commit properly until around mid-november, depending on what my university finals timetable is like.

apologies for the multitude of links, i normally just draw for fun so my stuff is a little all over the place.
if there's any info i'm missing that you need please give me a yell and i'll spill whatever else is needed. (:

@Damian: I haven't settled on a style as yet, but what I really liked about your pics, are the human/animal hybrids that you've done- that would be perfect for some of the Aliens I'm wanting to create!
I've got quite a bit of development to do on those races, but Im really keen to work with you. Officially though I'll have to wait and see what other artists put themselves forward, before I start divying up the characters... so I'l give you a definite answer mid September. Mid November as a start date is absolutely fine.

Until then I hope you don't mind me following you on tumblr/dA I'll be looking at some of your earlier work for inspiration.

Also- didn't you style my Ryohei wig a few years ago? If so, its good to see you again.

yeah cool (: i'm actually keen on those aliens, now that you mention them! gives me a bit of leeway with anatomy and facial structures, i tend to sameface my humans a lot and with anthropomorphic animalcreatures it's a lot easier to get them to look individual.

i've stopped posting drawings on dA since the people watching me don't watch me for my sketches, but yeah i dump what i do on tumblr now. (it might be better for your sanity in the long run if you just track my art tag, since i honestly post quite a fair bit of crap throughout the day which you would have to tolerate clogging up your dashboard if you follow me.) if you want more earlier work i can probably dig up some older stuff but i can't guarantee they'd be good haha. i just did a set of reaction images for a friend's roleplay tumblr today that i'll be happy to show you if you're interested-- it's pretty quick and dirty since she wasn't looking for anything fancy but since i draw a lot of neutral expressions normally it's a decent set of different facial expressions in my art style.

nah man, the wig wasn't my handiwork haha. you're probably thinking of rikki-leigh. ;)

Need an environment artist??? Currently doing some work wid nukebloodaxe but can slot ya in ^^. Please note that all work is done in 3D and can either be toon shaded or rendered using mental ray. If push comes to shove maybe ya can draw on top of the images? Send me a written description of a scene in the game via pm and I will make a rough for ya ^^

P.s. Some work is in the art section if it still there
