Photoshoot location ideas
Post By JVCA. 23/06/11, 04:01 pm

I'm making this a sticky, but know of somewhere that'd be really good for a photoshoot (photos of the location = <3)? Want suggestions on where to take photos for X series? Discuss here!

I'd quite like a good place for a Persona 4 photoshoot. Our local highschool's a bit dingy and blech for it...

As for suggestions - I don't have a photo (though I'll try grab one when I'm next up the road), but there are two really nice little parks up in Howick! There's also a bush just down the road from my house which can be kinda tricky lighting-wise but is still really nice. I'll get more specific locations when I get photos, heh.

@JVCA: re P4 shoots. Rent out a room at the university or something >3 or ask a friend who's in a club to put a request forward to AUSM.

They're usually quite flexible as long as you tell them when and what for~

Also there are a lot of classroom styled rooms in the WB building at AUT~

There is also a row of lockers near the gym at AUT. Now that it's the holidays there won't be many people around either~

One that comes to mind is Unitec (I think it's Unitec) where my friend did a photoshoot. The old mental asylum. She took photos up where the rooms are now third year+ art studios and there are a few empty rooms up there they found. Good for hospital/abandoned/eerie shots if you get the lighting right.

Ooh, yes. Symonds Street cemetery is amazing. I do my photoshoots for Photography there. And from what I understand, a lot of the graves have had the bodies shifted to a mass grave during the building of the Grafton Bridge and the streets around there.

Not reallly a specific place, but there are multiple open gardens in Auckland (and around nz) that are beautifully landscaped and could be appropriate for fancier series cosplay? in parks sometimes the flowers are trampled, or there's people in the shot, or other inconvenient thingys, but open gardens tend to be more private (or at least, less busy) and really well kept all year round, as well as have specific themes, etc.
In my experience most of the owners of open gardens are really friendly and would probably have no major issues with arranging a photoshoot there (though definitely contact in advance and check if it's alright!!). There may be an entrance fee for some of them, though.
Some of them also have large fancy old houses attached also open for viewing, probably less likely to get permission to do a photoshoot though.

And NZ Gardener always has articles on open gardens!

EDIT: ALSO, there's a cool narrow alley in epsom, behind the post shop? I'll try and take a picture of it, it's pretty ghetto without actually being anywhere near a ghetto.
And there's this grove-y cool little meadow-y idek what to call it thing on the slopes of Mt Eden, a little ways up and off one of the paths leading off the playground/flying fox. I'll also try and get a picture of it. xD

If you're looking for a grungy/asylum/industrial-ish location in Auckland, the old military tunnels on North Head in Devonport are an excellent location. I just did the shoot there today and there are TONS of good places.
Check it out
