Gravity Defying Hair..?
Post By sakura-uchiha. 16/05/11, 11:48 pm

Ohhk.... So...
My little sister (11) is going to cosplay either Little/Young Goku or Goten - Normal NOT in Super Saiyan form - from Dragon Ball/Z at Chchgeddon this year.... we've completed everything... but it's the HAIR that's we cant get round to...
Wht's even more a hassle is we cant get her a wig.. :/ and so we decide we're just gonig to gel/style/whatever her(already black hair) up and style it into the goku/goten look...
She has normal thichkness/thiness hair(not too thick but not thin either) about nearly shoulder length hair..(which we will be trimming a bit before her cosplay) and we don't know how to do it...>A<

So PLEASE help?? What kind of hair product would we want to use? >A< any techniques the senpais here could teach us?
It would be appreciated >A<

Arigatou so so much!!

If you're or rather she isn't afraid of damaging her hair then:

Do this bit by bit. Hold her hair up hairspray the cra p out of it with the strongest hairspray you can find/buy, then go at it while holding it up with a hair straightener. Not kidding. My friend cosplayed from Dir en Grey like 6 or 7 years back and their hair used to get pretty damn crazy, but yeah that's the method they used~

If she's not too hot on it, then I say skip the hair straightener part all together and saturate your entire head in hair spray i.e. doing it bit by bit with crazy strong hair spray. I do it to my hair when it reaches that awkward stage where its too short to tie up but is too long that when I put it in a wig cap bits and pieces comes out unless I pin it into submission or freeze it with hairspray~

Also cannot stress the bit by bit part enough. If you jsut hair spray her hair one shot while everything up it's like you're giving it no real foundation. The outside will be rock solid but your inside will be soft and it just wouldn't really work ...

idk go to your supermarket and find the one that says it has the strongest hold? I personally like schwarzkopf. Though whether or not it smells lovely or like crap is hit and miss though the hold pretty good~

I suggest using a hair dryer on each bit once you've styled it with hairspray. Go for freeze hold hairspray.

I think schwarzkopf's Taft brand is supposed to be good for holding spikes and such.

Sometimes some of the brands will have a scale of 1-5 or 1-6 for their products, higher the better. The super market tends to have crazy stronger stuff than hair salons have I have found.

The only thing I can add is spiking glue, just for the holding the end bits together, and then yeah hairspray! In fact I have some hair glue you can borrow. But like it's pretty cheap. Hairspray, even the cheap stuff is good IOMO.

You can tease her hair~

Hold up a piece -> hairspray, wait for it to dry -> comb it downwards whilst holding it up (if that makes any sense orz) -> hairspray the heck out of it

Do that until you've got what you've wanted, then top it off with more hairspray just to ensure the hold. Bringing a can would be a good idea too, unless you're using a relatively expensive brand, in which case you probably wouldn't need to.

And to make the ends spiky, I suggest using Gatsby wax (Pink or Purple) and kinda 'twisting' the ends of the spikes with the wax on your fingers.
